This past week saw some interesting weather with a few days and nights of windy conditions. There were some areas of the mountain that were less than perfect and others that were filled in with powdery snow. Riding up the lift to catch Long Shot, which was the noon groom at Snowmass last week I was glad to hear a visitor from San Francisco say that they were skiing all week and loved every minute of it. She was not going to do Long Shot but after a five-minute lift ride she was convinced that she was going to do it.

All Trails in Snowmass are OPEN! The rains in June have left us with buff singletrack. The flowers are coming in and the riding has never been better! Burlingame Chair opens Wed June 24th for DH mtn biking, hiking, and disc golf. Enjoy all of these rides and more in Snowmass Village! Open Trails are: Cross Mtn, Government, Village Bound, Connector, Rim Trail (Mtn View to Sinclair Rd ONLY), Powerline, Starks, Tom Blake, Luge, Ditch, Nature Trail (Bikes allowed after 5pm)

If you're not up to taking the prize money during Big Air Friday's The Snowmass Village Marketing & Special Events Department is offering CASH for Best Float ($400), Best Use of Theme (Knights of the Round Table) ($200) and Best Costume ($150). Mardi Gras in Snowmass - February 24, 2009This annual Fat Tuesday celebration is one of the biggest festivals of the season in Snowmass and one of the oldest Mardi Gras parties in the mountains. The authentic fete began unofficially in 1980 with New Orleans natives seeking an alternative to the crowds of their hometown celebration.  

MOTHER OF ALL ASCENSIONS RETURNS TO SNOWMASS FOR MARDI GRAS!The Mother of All Ascensions uphill race returns to kick off Mardi Gras Tuesday, February 24th beginning at 7am. This classic uphill in a series of uphills around the valley goes 1,741 vertical feet from Fanny Hill to Gwyn's High Alpine restaurant. Racers can participate in snowshoes, track skis, hiking boots or running shoes. Costumes are highly encouraged.

Going Green is the buzz these days and green will be the buzz in Snowmass on Tuesday, March 17! "We are celebrating our sixth year and have gathered quite a following since this celebration was introduced," said Susan Hamley, Marketing Director for the Snowmass Tourism Office. "St. Paddy's Day is a great time to come to Snowmass and enjoy the slopes and the Irish festivities all in one place."

Spring is in the Air here in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. This past week was filled with lots of snow. 44" to be exact, fun filled events, and a sprinkling sunshine.
