by Nate Berkel The first step is to figure out which foot you want to be in front.
It's best to have someone push you from behind while standing and see which
foot you put out first to get your balance back.
Next step is to watch someone else do the trick, to get an idea of the speed
you need.
Then see yourself sliding the feature numerous times in your head. Visualization is HUGE!
When approaching the feature make sure to bend the knees a little bit, and
really feel balanced.
When jumping onto the box or rail make sure to keep the knees shoulder width apart (very
important.) You don't want to slide out or fall forward. Keeping your knees
shoulder width apart will help to prevent this from happening.
Keep your shoulders parallel with the rail or box so you don't end up falling on the feature. For the guys, if you want to have kids, keep your shoulders parallel with the rail.
When you are on the rail or box make sure to distribute your weight evenly. You don't want all your weight on your front or back ski.
Now that you are sliding the feature keep your arms still and by your side. Flail all over and you'll lose your balance. Keep your eyes on the end of the feature if you want to make it to the end.
When jumping off you have an option of landing switch or forward. If you feel comfortable skiing switch then I recommend doing a 90 off and landing switch (it looks and feels cooler). If you're not ok with landing switch then just pop off forward turning your shoulders back down mountain.
Practice makes perfect. The more you practice the more comfortable you'll feel in the parks. Don't forget, you can't be afraid to fall; it's part of learning.
