The Cirque
is pretty straight forward, but for the locals, the tip is to actually take
High Alpine Chair up to the top of Green Cabin. Head down Green
Cabin and be on the lookout Skiers Left for the access gate to the Dikes.
Head down the Dikes for some untouched, outstanding skiing.
Another tip
is to keep skiers right as you near KT Gully...look to your right for the
traverse that takes you back to High Alpine. Catching the traverse allows
you to do laps in the Dikes and only riding one chairlift....Sweet!
The Cirque
Headwall is the place to pull out those big all mountain skis. For a
super steep treat, head to Gowdy's and hold on because the entrance to
Gowdy's has a 52 degree pitch. That's steeper than anything Aspen Mountain or
Highlands has to offer. Navigate the chute and it opens up in to a wide open
area of powder. For untracked lines head skiers left out of the chute.
When the
snow conditions allow, the main lines down the center of the headwall are
second to none. Be watchful of rocks, but if the conditions allow,
any and all options are open.
Make sure
you ski all of the areas with a partner and helmets are recommended. Both
the Dikes and the Headwall have many rocks just below the surface. Also
dress accordingly as skiing and riding in these areas can be strenuous
and you don't want to overheat. When skiing in the trees, make sure
you are looking ahead and mindful of everything that is around you. If you
don't want to hit the tree, don't look at it.
